Battlegrounds registration to go live before launch

By on May 7, 2021 0

PUBG Mobile India is officially called Battlegrounds Mobile India, Krafton announced on Thursday. To recall, PUBG Mobile India was announced back in November, but the game’s release met with several delays due to the government’s ban on Chinese apps. In an attempt to rid the PUBG image, the game will now be called Battlegrounds Mobile India, and Krafton has revealed a few key details about the game. Battlegrounds Mobile India pre-registration in India will go live before launch, Krafton has said. However, there is no word yet on when that will happen as the game’s launch date is yet to be revealed.

Battlegrounds Mobile India pre-registration will go live soon

Krafton has revealed that Battlegrounds Mobile India pre-registration will go live before launch. There is no date for pre-registration yet but with the game now being officially announced by the company, we expect to hear something soon. According to the company, the game will only be available to play in India.

Krafton revealed the official Battlegrounds Mobile India logo on Thursday. As you can see, there is no mention of PUBG anymore in the logo and on the official new website. With Battlegrounds Mobile India, Krafton promises privacy and data security as being top priorities. The company plans to work with partners to ensure data protection and security. While the company has not explicitly revealed it, it looks like all data will be stored locally in India.

Battlegrounds registration to go live before launch

We still don’t know how different Battlegrounds Mobile India will look from PUBG Mobile India. It is most likely still a battle royale game as you play with online players. But with the game only available in India, it seems you will not be able to play with players outside of the country. Krafton also promises plenty of India-specific content after the game officially launches in India.

For PUBG Mobile fans in India, there’s some good news. The game might be coming back to the market soon, though the name will be different. Krafton, the South Korean video game developer, has announced a new game for the India market called ‘Battlegrounds Mobile India’. Based on the trailer, the new battle royale game looks a lot like the original PUBG Mobile that was very popular in the country before it was banned last year in September.

In a press statement, Krafton has said that the “BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA will release with exclusive in-game events like outfits and features and will have its own esports ecosystem with tournaments and leagues.” The game will be available to play for free on smartphones. This is a battle royale game, similar to PUBG Mobile.

According to the company, they will have a period of pre-registration before the launch. The game will be available to play only in India, which is further indication that this likely a substitute for PUBG Mobile.

Battlegrounds Mobile India

South Korean gaming company Krafton will relaunch the India version of its popular game – PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), for mobile users.

This will come in a new avatar called Battlegrounds Mobile India.

Krafton has not set a timeline for the launch of the mobile multiplayer game in the country.

In September last year, PUBG Mobile, which was published in India by Chinese internet giant Tencent, was banned along with other Chinese apps after a prolonged border standoff between the neighbours.

Following the ban, PUBG Corp, the subsidiary of Krafton, severed ties with Tencent for India.

“Battlegrounds Mobile India will release with exclusive in-game events like outfits and features and will have its own esports ecosystem with tournaments and leagues. The game will launch as a free-to-play experience on mobile devices,” Krafton said in a statement.

In November, PUBG Corp said it would set up an Indian subsidiary and launch a new India specific version of the game. The company, along with parent Krafton, said it would invest $100 million to revive business in its largest market in terms of number of users.

Before it was banned, India accounted for over 175 million downloads — about a quarter of the global figure — according to SensorTower data.

“The announcement of Battlegrounds Mobile India boosts India’s growing mobile gaming market,” said Rupantar Guha, associate project manager, thematic research, Global Data, which estimates the mobile gaming market in the country to be worth over $1 billion in 2021.

“Battle royale games are increasingly popular in India and considering the demand for PUBG Mobile before the ban, Krafton’s adoption of an Indianized content strategy should ensure the new game’s success,” Guha added.

Krafton will have to push hard to make up lost ground in the esports segment that PUBG pioneered in India, he said, as several gamers and esports organisations have transitioned to alternative titles like Sea’s Garena Free Fire, Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty: Mobile, and SuperCell’s Clash of Clans, following the ban.

Krafton’s investment will be the largest by a South Korean firm in India, outside of the manufacturing sector.

“It’s good to see that Krafton has considered the Indian requirements and has modified the game and this will surely fuel the Indian esports ecosystem,” said Lokesh Suji, director, Esports Federation of India and vice president, Asian Esports Federation.

“Krafton has been already taking positive initiatives in the Indian market in the last few months which…highlights the capability of the esports ecosystem in India,” Suji added.

The company will have a pre-registration period before launch.

“Krafton will collaborate with partners to build an esports ecosystem while bringing in-game content regularly, starting with a series of India specific in-game events at launch, to be announced later,” said the company.

The launch will also boost the larger gaming ecosystem in India.

Tarun Gupta, founder of online esports platform Ultimate Battle, said it would add Battlegrounds Mobile India to its platform as soon as it launches and expect the game to cross a million downloads within a week.

“We believe the content creators community will get a major boost once the game is launched and it will fuel our ambition of creating a unique ecosystem for the gaming content creators to make a serious career out of their passion,” said Shivam Rao, chief operating officer of gaming talent management firm Trinity Gaming.

PUBG Mobile was kicked out of the Indian market last fall, but now a successor is on its way, developed by the same company Krafton. The new name will be Battleground Mobile India, and this time it will bring localized in-game events.

PUBG (Player Unknown’s Battleground) pulled out of the Asian country after the local government actually banned it, quoting the app was “prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of the state and public order.”

The real reason behind this statement was because PUBG had ties with Tencent, a Chinese conglomerate, and currently India and China are in a feud, following a border conflict.

Battleground Mobile will store all collected data on Indian servers and will operate “in full compliance with all applicable laws” in India and for players in the country. The game launch is just a small step for Krafton trying to warm up to the Indian government – it also promised an investment of $100 million in the country, as well as opening 100 new job positions.

As per the post, the beloved battle royale game would come with a different name this time, and Krafton says that this will be an India-exclusive version. The company has rather smartly designed the new logo, giving it an India theme using the colours of the Indian flag for the words.

Since the game now has a new name, the company changed its presence on online platforms accordingly. Its Facebook and YouTube channels have now been renamed to Battlegrounds Mobile India from their earlier PUBG Mobile India handles.

Interestingly, the rebranding makes no use of the name PUBG Mobile anymore. It can’t, after all, if the company wants to keep on the act that it is not the same game that was banned before. But as everyone knows, there will be little to differentiate the two (apparently different) games.

So the reveal of the “new” game has been announced under a whole new title and banner. Interestingly, there is also a short trailer that Battlegrounds Mobile India came up with, in addition to the game’s reveal announcement. The trailer does not reveal much, but it will make PUBG Mobile players reminisce their much-loved game.

That is because it shows the players jumping off a plane and into the battle arena. The parachutes are the same, and the character outfits are the same, and so is the background score on the video. It is the music that PUBG Mobile players will fondly recollect listening to while waiting for the game to load.

As for the official release, the company says that Battlegrounds Mobile India will release with “exclusive in-game events like outfits and features.” One can easily expect most of these events and outfits to be the ones they have already seen in PUBG Mobile. The gameplay is anticipated to be the same too.

Minor tweaks might be experienced here and there. For instance, the government of India pointed out PUBG Mobile for being violent in nature at the time of its banning, with a tendency to create a complex in the minds of children. It is expected that Krafton will have eliminated those concerns by reworking the gunshot effects and hit wounds. Some basic changes might also be seen in the menus for a rebranding purpose.

Battlegrounds Mobile India launch date

Now that we know what to expect with the new game by Krafton, the question is, when will it be available for play?

On its website, Battlegrounds Mobile India says that the game will see a period of pre-registration before the launch. This means that mobile users will be allowed to pre-register for the game before it is officially available on Android and iOS app stores.

It is expected that the game will mark its debut in a closed beta group first, for which pre-registration will be required. Once the bugs are ironed out, a fully developed version of the game will be rolled out to the rest of the users.

The game will be available to play only in India. Interestingly enough, Krafton has even started planning of building an esports ecosystem around the game. For this, the company is in touch with several partners.

Even before the launch, it confirms that Battlegrounds Mobile India will have “a series of India specific in-game events” as soon as it is available for download. Details on these events will be shared in the near future.

The battle royale game will be free for all smartphone users to download. However, we should expect in-game purchases for several in-game resources and benefits.
