Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday hailed Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). The home minister called the scheme a ‘sankat mochan’ for the country’s poor. He said, “If a poor person gets sick, the entire family’s budget is shaken. The Ayushman Bharat health scheme will help people with meeting medical expenses and also instil a sense of confidence in people. Several facts and figures indicate that if a poor person falls sick, they go deeper into poverty and nearly 5 crore families have been pushed below the poverty line due to expenditure on illness. The Ayushman Bharat health scheme is ‘Sankat Mochan Yojna’ for poor. Rs 5 lakh cover is not a small thing. Now the poor won’t have to beg creditors or be indebted to their creditors.”
